Registration is now open for the Laguna Phuket International Marathon, Asia’s fastest-growing destination marathon scheduled to be held on June 13, 2010.

Registration is now open for the Laguna Phuket International Marathon, Asia’s fastest-growing destination marathon scheduled to be held on June 13, 2010.
What’s the Laguna Phuket International Marathon like? Friendly, fun in the sun! The marathon course is postcard coastal Thailand and takes in a typical Thai village market, a rubber plantation, beach and sea views, as well as stretches along buffalo-plowed rice fields before finishing in the resort of Laguna Phuket in the northwest of the tropical island paradise.

Each step of the 42.195 km marathon course has been officially measured and is sanctioned by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.

EVERYONE’S A WINNER!

However, there’s a distance for everyone at Laguna Phuket International Marathon 2010. No matter what your fitness level is now, or what your aspirations are, there are five great events on the same day to choose from: 42.195km – marathon (over 18), 21km – half marathon (over 16), 10.5km – run (over 12), 2km run (children only), and 5km walk (all welcome). Everyone has an opportunity to get their own medals and Nike Singlet at the Laguna Phuket International Marathon!

WEATHER

Phuket is in a tropical climate. The weather in June is likely to be warm with temperatures up to 30 degrees Celsius. June is the start of the rainy
season in southern Thailand, but with an early race start of 0430 hours it is hoped that the chance of you being out on the course in a tropical shower will be minimized.

ELEPHANTS JOIN THE PARTY

A familiar sight for Laguna Phuket’s visitors are the resort’s family of former working elephants who faced unemployment and abandonment following the
decline of Thailand’s logging industry. Last year’s winner, Stephen Paine of Australia, was greeted at the finish line by Lucky, the youngest of
these tame elephants, along with her keeper. Paine’s winning time was 2:39, and the first woman, Katja Fink of Switzerland crossed the line in 3:34. In
2010, the elephants will join the pre-race festivities at the pasta party.

SPONSORSHIP NEWS

Laguna Phuket has extended its commitment to the Phuket International Marathon for a further three years renewing its expiring title sponsorship
contract until 2012. The events managing director Raimund Wellenhofer is extremely pleased with Laguna’s continuous support of the event.

“Laguna has shared our vision of the event from the beginning, and we are excited about Laguna’s commitment in a time when sponsors scrutinize even more where to
put their sponsorship money. I believe that the increase in international participants in 2009, despite a temporary slowdown in international tourist
arrivals, has been one of the main arguments for us to convince Laguna to continue our successful partnership far into the future as they could
clearly see the benefits of putting on an event to boost guest numbers at Laguna,” Raimund said.

GO ADVENTURE ASIA APPOINTED ORGANIZER FOR ANOTHER THREE YEARS

Go Adventure Asia (GAA) has been appointed to organize the event for another three years. The Bangkok-based firm is a professional event organizer with a focus on running and multi-sport events. GAA has a track record of organizing international standard sporting events in Thailand and Asia.

GAA has organized the Laguna Phuket International Marathon for the last four years, manages the Laguna Phuket Triathlon, Asia’s leading destination
Triathlon, and is also involved in the management of Ironman China and the Pan Pacific Bangkok Walk 4 Women.

Roman Floesser, general manager of GAA commented: “The Laguna Phuket International Marathon is one of Asia’s premier marathon events, and we are proud to have been managing the event since its inauguration. In our growing portfolio of events, the marathon remains the biggest and most important event for us, and we look forward to the 2010 edition and beyond.”
